# netcup

Canonical: https://inetgeek.com/hosting/netcup/

German hosting company selling KVM virtual servers and root servers with dedicated cores, plus web hosting and domains, from data centers in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the US and Singapore.

## Who it suits

Cheap European KVM servers with flat-rate traffic: 4 GB RAM and 64 GB SSD for €8.26 a month on a 12-month term, in Vienna, Nuremberg or Amsterdam under the GDPR, from an ISO 27001-certified host.

Consider something else if You need month-to-month billing at the listed price or round-the-clock support: headline prices assume a 12-month minimum term, ticket support runs weekdays 8:00–22:00 Berlin time, and the standard availability commitment is 99.6% a year. Prices shown include 19% German VAT.

## iScore

59 / 100 (80% interval 51–67), rank 4 of 16 in hosting — interval overlaps the next rank, so this is an ordering, not a finding.

inetGeek's own reading, computed from sourced facts against category peers by disclosed rules. Not a provider claim. Intervals are 80%; a provider with few documented facts is pulled toward the category middle rather than scored on what little is known.

## What the documentation says

### Pricing

- Entry paid plan: €2.21/month for VPS pico G11.5s (1 vCore, 1 GB RAM, 30 GB SSD, IPv4 + IPv6), on a 12-month minimum contract billed per 12 months, with a €0.00 set-up fee. Limited to one per customer and hosted in Nuremberg only. The €2.21 includes 19% German VAT, which the site shows by default; its country selector lists 0% VAT for United States customers. Converted for comparison at the ECB reference rate of 1 EUR = 1.1367 USD (2026-09-24, api.frankfurter.dev), which puts it at about $2.51/month including that VAT. netcup publishes no USD price; the conversion is ours and moves with the rate. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/vps/vps-pico-g11.5s-iv-12m-nue), read 2026-09-25)
- Pricing model: Fixed monthly prices on a minimum contract term of 1, 12 or 24 months; longer terms are cheaper (VPS 500 G12.5 costs €2.47/month more on 1 month than on 24 months) and the billing period equals the term. No set-up fee. Picking a specific data center instead of 'No preference Europe' adds €1.04/month on VPS 500, or €7.66 for Singapore. Prices include 19% German VAT. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/vps/vps-500-g12.5-iv-24m-eu), read 2026-09-25)
- Egress over allowance: No per-GB price on the VPS G12.5 line: traffic is a flat rate, and heavy use is throttled (to 200 Mbps on VPS 500 above a 2 TB 24-hour average) rather than charged. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/vps/vps-500-g12.5-iv-24m-eu), read 2026-09-25)
- When you exceed a cap: Throttled, not billed: on VPS 500 G12.5, when average traffic over the last 24 hours exceeds 2 TB the port is throttled to 200 Mbps, lifted automatically once the average falls back. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/vps/vps-500-g12.5-iv-24m-eu), read 2026-09-25)

### Limits

- Memory (entry plan): 1 GB RAM on VPS pico G11.5s, the cheapest VPS plan ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/vps-lite), read 2026-09-25)
- Included bandwidth: Traffic flat rate with no monthly transfer allowance on the VPS G12.5 line (VPS 500); instead, a VPS 500 is throttled to 200 Mbps while its average traffic over the last 24 hours exceeds 2 TB. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/vps/vps-500-g12.5-iv-24m-eu), read 2026-09-25)

### Deployment

- Containers: Limited ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/helpcenter/documentation/server/faq), read 2026-09-25)

### Infrastructure

- Persistent storage: Supported ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/vps), read 2026-09-25)
- Regions: Vienna (VIE), Nuremberg (NUE), Amsterdam (AMS), Manassas, USA (MNZ) and Singapore (SIN), plus a 'No preference Europe' option that places the server in a European data center by capacity. Some plans are sold in one location only (VPS pico: Nuremberg). ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/vps), read 2026-09-25)
- Uptime SLA: 99.6% minimum average annual availability for all products unless otherwise agreed, under the terms and conditions; an optional paid service level raises it. Liability for missing it is capped at the monthly rent of the affected service. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/terms-and-conditions), read 2026-09-25)

### Data

- Backup retention: None by default: netcup's terms say it does not back up customer content unless otherwise agreed, and make the customer responsible for backups. VPS plans include customer-made snapshots instead. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/terms-and-conditions), read 2026-09-25)

### Support

- Support on entry paid plan: Ticket/email support Monday-Friday 8:00-22:00 Berlin time in English and German, a 24/7 chatbot, and an emergency phone line outside hotline hours. The regular phone hotline is marked temporarily unavailable, and the page warns of delays from high request volume. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/helpcenter/support), read 2026-09-25)
- Response time commitment: Stated as generally within a few minutes for email enquiries, on netcup's vServer details page; a general statement, not a guaranteed figure. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/affordable-vserver-best-quality), read 2026-09-25)

### Compliance

- ISO 27001: ISO 27001 certified since 2023, audited annually by TÜV Nord; the scope includes vServer, web hosting, domains and managed hosting. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/about-netcup/certifications), read 2026-09-25)
- GDPR / data residency: The customer picks the data center per server; the European locations operate under the GDPR, and 'No preference Europe' keeps a vServer in Vienna, Nuremberg or Amsterdam. The location cannot be changed after ordering. For Manassas (USA) netcup warns there may be specific legal implications. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/helpcenter/faq), read 2026-09-25)
- Private networking / VPC: Cloud vLAN interconnects several root servers or VPS; the 100 Mbps Cloud vLAN Free is €0.00, with faster tiers from €4.99 (250 Mbps) to €20.50 (2.5 Gbps), prices incl. 19% VAT. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/kvm-server-extensions), read 2026-09-25)
- Dedicated infrastructure: The Root Server line (RS G12.5) gives CPU cores and RAM exclusively to one customer on a KVM host; the VPS line does not include dedicated cores. ([source](https://www.netcup.com/en/server/root-server), read 2026-09-25)
