# Astro on Cloudflare Pages

Canonical: https://inetgeek.com/stacks/astro-on-cloudflare-pages/

Cloudflare Pages publishes its own guide for deploying Astro.

Content-focused framework that ships zero JavaScript by default and renders components from several UI libraries.

## What Astro needs

Every host claims to run Astro, so the claim on its own decides nothing. These are the things Astro requires from the platform underneath it, and what Cloudflare Pages publishes about each. Cloudflare Pages documents 4 of the 4.

| Requirement | Cloudflare Pages | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Build allowance | 500 builds per month on the Free plan | Astro prerenders by default, so most of the work happens at build time and the build allowance is the real constraint. |
| Concurrent builds | 5 concurrent builds on Pro (1 on Free, 20 on Business), with 5,000 builds per month on Pro | A content site rebuilds on every edit. One build slot turns a busy publishing day into a queue. |
| Edge network | Supported — Cloudflare's network page advertises deploying to 330+ cities. | A prerendered Astro site is a directory of static files. After that, the only thing left that affects speed is where they are served from. |
| Git deployment | Supported | Astro's usual workflow is a push that triggers a build. Anything else means wiring the build yourself. |

### Astro features on Cloudflare Pages

- **ssr_adapter**: Supported — You can deploy an Astro Server-side Rendered (SSR) site to Cloudflare Pages using the @astrojs/cloudflare adapter [...] SSR sites render on Pages Functions and allow for dynamic functionality and customizations. ([source](https://developers.cloudflare.com/pages/framework-guides/deploy-an-astro-site/))
- **zero_config_deploy**: Supported — Cloudflare maintains a list of build configurations for popular frameworks and tools. These are accessible during project creation. [...] Astro npm run build dist ([source](https://developers.cloudflare.com/pages/configuration/build-configuration/))

## What it costs to run there

| | Cloudflare Pages |
| --- | --- |
| Entry paid plan | $5 / month account minimum |
| Pricing model | Metered usage with a $5 monthly account minimum |
| Regions | No region selection. Pages Functions run in the data centre closest to the request; Smart Placement can instead pin a Worker near a named cloud region, host or hostname. |

## Whether it suits you

Projects where the entire fixed cost should be a $5 monthly account minimum rather than a per-seat fee, and teams already running on the wider Workers platform. Billing is metered, so cost tracks traffic rather than headcount.

Consider something else if: Your repository is hosted somewhere other than GitHub or GitLab, or the free plan's 500 builds a month is not enough headroom.
