# Nuxt on Netlify

Canonical: https://inetgeek.com/stacks/nuxt-on-netlify/

Netlify publishes its own guide for deploying Nuxt.

Vue framework with file-based routing and a choice of static, server-rendered or hybrid output.

## What Nuxt needs

Every host claims to run Nuxt, so the claim on its own decides nothing. These are the things Nuxt requires from the platform underneath it, and what Netlify publishes about each. Netlify documents 2 of the 4.

| Requirement | Netlify | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Max request duration | 60 seconds (synchronous); 30 seconds (scheduled); 15 minutes (background) | Nitro server routes and server-side rendering both run per request, bounded by this ceiling. |
| Edge network | Supported | Nuxt's route rules cache and revalidate at the edge. Without an edge network those rules degrade to origin rendering. |
| Build allowance | Not documented | Nuxt prerenders routes at build time when asked to, which moves cost from request time into the build allowance. |
| Scales to zero | Not documented | Nitro can deploy as functions. Scaling to zero removes the idle bill and adds a cold start to the first request instead. |

## What Netlify documents

> Nuxt is an open source, modular framework for building performant sites and applications using Vue.js.

### Nuxt features on Netlify

- **zero_config_deploy**: Supported — Nuxt sites on Netlify can benefit from automatic framework detection and require minimal setup considerations. [...] If your site is built with Nuxt, Netlify provides a suggested build command and publish directory ([source](https://docs.netlify.com/build/frameworks/framework-setup-guides/nuxt/))
- **image_optimization**: Supported — When deploying your Nuxt applications to Netlify, the Nuxt image module automatically uses Netlify Image CDN to optimize and transform images on demand without impacting build times. ([source](https://docs.netlify.com/build/frameworks/framework-setup-guides/nuxt/))
- **route_rules_isr**: Limited — Nuxt v3 apps using the default netlify Nitro preset can't set cache control headers on ISR routes. [...] We are working on updating our framework support for Nuxt (and other frameworks powered by Nitro, such as Analog, SolidStart, and TanStack Start) to automatically use the durable cache. ([source](https://docs.netlify.com/build/caching/caching-overview/))

## What it costs to run there

| | Netlify |
| --- | --- |
| Entry paid plan | $9/month for 1,000 credits/month |
| Pricing model | Monthly plan credits are included with your plan each billing cycle and reset at the start of each cycle. |
| When you exceed a cap | Suspended: when credits run out every project is paused and visitors see a Site not available page, unless auto recharge is configured. |

## Whether it suits you

Teams that want Git-driven deploys onto a global CDN with a managed Postgres database built into the same platform. The free tier is 300 credits a month with a hard limit, so spend cannot surprise you.

Consider something else if: You need to run containers or long-lived processes — Netlify does not document either.
