# SvelteKit on Netlify

Canonical: https://inetgeek.com/stacks/sveltekit-on-netlify/

Netlify publishes its own guide for deploying SvelteKit.

Svelte application framework that targets different deployment platforms through adapters.

## What SvelteKit needs

Every host claims to run SvelteKit, so the claim on its own decides nothing. These are the things SvelteKit requires from the platform underneath it, and what Netlify publishes about each. Netlify documents 2 of the 4.

| Requirement | Netlify | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Max request duration | 60 seconds (synchronous); 30 seconds (scheduled); 15 minutes (background) | SvelteKit load functions and form actions run on the server per request, bounded by this ceiling. |
| Edge network | Supported | The adapter decides where handlers run. An edge network is what makes the edge adapters worth choosing. |
| Build allowance | Not documented | Prerenderable routes are resolved at build time, so build allowance scales with the size of the site. |
| Scales to zero | Not documented | Adapter output is usually a function per route. Scaling to zero removes idle cost at the price of a cold start. |

## What Netlify documents

> SvelteKit projects on Netlify benefit from automatic framework detection and have minor setup considerations for deployment.

### SvelteKit features on Netlify

- **platform_adapter**: Supported — To deploy a SvelteKit project on Netlify, use SvelteKit's Netlify adapter. This adapter deploys SvelteKit endpoints as Netlify Functions. For example, SSR routes are deployed to a render function. ([source](https://docs.netlify.com/build/frameworks/framework-setup-guides/sveltekit/))
- **edge_ssr**: Limited — When you enable Edge Functions in SvelteKit, SSR happens in a Deno-based edge function that's deployed close to your site visitors. [...] If you use Edge Functions, you can't use the adapter's split feature. [...] Edge functions don't work locally. Currently, edge functions do not work as expected when running netlify dev with SvelteKit. ([source](https://docs.netlify.com/build/frameworks/framework-setup-guides/sveltekit/))

## What it costs to run there

| | Netlify |
| --- | --- |
| Entry paid plan | $9/month for 1,000 credits/month |
| Pricing model | Monthly plan credits are included with your plan each billing cycle and reset at the start of each cycle. |
| When you exceed a cap | Suspended: when credits run out every project is paused and visitors see a Site not available page, unless auto recharge is configured. |

## Whether it suits you

Teams that want Git-driven deploys onto a global CDN with a managed Postgres database built into the same platform. The free tier is 300 credits a month with a hard limit, so spend cannot surprise you.

Consider something else if: You need to run containers or long-lived processes — Netlify does not document either.
