# WordPress on Kinsta

Canonical: https://inetgeek.com/stacks/wordpress-on-kinsta/

Kinsta publishes its own guide for deploying WordPress.

PHP content management system that requires a database and persistent filesystem for uploads and plugins.

## What WordPress needs

Every host claims to run WordPress, so the claim on its own decides nothing. These are the things WordPress requires from the platform underneath it, and what Kinsta publishes about each. Kinsta documents 4 of the 4.

| Requirement | Kinsta | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Persistent storage | Supported | Uploads, themes and plugins are written to disk while the site is running. A host that resets the filesystem on every deploy loses them. |
| Managed databases | Supported | Every post, option and user lives in MySQL. Without a managed database you are running, patching and backing one up yourself. |
| Storage (entry plan) | 10GB storage on the Single 20GB plan (cheapest paid WordPress hosting plan) | A media library grows steadily and is almost never pruned. Disk is the cap a WordPress site reaches first. |
| Monthly visits cap | No visit cap on the entry plan: Single 20GB is billed on bandwidth, at 20GB a month. Kinsta offers visits-billed plans as the alternative, where the Business Launch tier estimates 75,000 visits a month. | Managed WordPress plans meter traffic rather than CPU, so the visit ceiling is the real size of the plan you are buying. |

### WordPress features on Kinsta

- **managed_mysql**: Supported — Every site on our platform runs in an isolated software container that contains all of the software resources required to run the site (Linux, NGINX, PHP, MySQL). ([source](https://kinsta.com/docs/wordpress-hosting/wordpress-getting-started/wordpress-infrastructure/))
- **staging_environment**: Supported — Each WordPress install at Kinsta can have its own free WordPress staging environment, completely separate from the live production site. ([source](https://kinsta.com/docs/wordpress-hosting/staging-environment/))
- **object_cache**: Limited — Using a persistent object cache such as Redis cache allows for the reuse of cached objects rather than requiring the MySQL database to be queried a second time for the same object. [...] The Redis caching add-on costs $100 per month per site. ([source](https://kinsta.com/docs/wordpress-hosting/caching/redis-cache/))
- **automated_backups**: Supported — We provide daily automatic WordPress backups, as well as system-generated backups for all sites on your account. [...] Daily: We create a backup automatically every day. ([source](https://kinsta.com/docs/wordpress-hosting/wordpress-backups-and-disaster-recovery/wordpress-backups/))
- **wp_cli**: Supported — WP-CLI v2 is installed by default on all of our servers. [...] Kinsta provides SSH access with all of our Managed WordPress Hosting plans. ([source](https://kinsta.com/docs/wordpress-hosting/site-management/wordpress-wp-cli/))

## What it costs to run there

| | Kinsta |
| --- | --- |
| Entry paid plan | $35/month for the entry single-site plan (first month $0, then $35/month); $30/month if paid annually. |
| Pricing model | Fixed monthly or annual plan tiers, each including a set number of WordPress installs; annual billing gives two months free, and visit/storage/CDN usage above the plan limits is billed as overage fees. |
| When you exceed a cap | Sites stay online and are billed an overage fee of $0.50 per 1,000 visits; disk space overage is prorated at $2 per GB per month |
| Regions | 30 data centers |

## Whether it suits you

WordPress sites that want each install in its own isolated container with a Cloudflare-backed CDN included, and a data centre chosen from thirty locations. Cron jobs run on the server rather than on page visits.

Consider something else if: The entry plan is $35 a month for a single site, which is a large step up from shared hosting if you do not need the isolation.
