# Storj

Canonical: https://inetgeek.com/storage/storj/

S3-compatible storage distributed across tens of thousands of independent locations rather than regional data centres, charging for egress as well as storage.

## Who it suits

Workloads that want data spread across many independent locations rather than one provider's region, at a storage rate close to the cheapest here.

Consider something else if Egress is charged at the same $7 per TB as storage, so a read-heavy workload costs roughly double what the storage line suggests — the three free-egress providers here charge nothing for it.

## iScore

66 / 100 (80% interval 61–72), rank 4 of 9 in storage — interval overlaps the next rank, so this is an ordering, not a finding.

inetGeek's own reading, computed from sourced facts against category peers by disclosed rules. Not a provider claim. Intervals are 80%; a provider with few documented facts is pulled toward the category middle rather than scored on what little is known.
Read this score with care:
- Capacity and limits is thin: 0 of 1 criteria are scored, so it sits near the category middle with a wide interval (48–61). Read the interval, not the point.
- Documented but not scored, because the page states it as text with no comparable number or a yes/limited/no (a one-time, usage-based or other-vendor price, or a per-site choice): egress_overage_price, free_allowance, operations_price. Read them on the provider page; the score neither rewards nor penalises what it could not compare.

- Price: 58 (48–67), weight 53%, 4 of 8 criteria scored; scored for peers, not here — undocumented or stated without a number or a yes/limited/no: egress_overage_price, free_allowance, free_tier, operations_price
- Capacity and limits: 54 (48–61), weight 8%, 0 of 1 criteria scored; scored for peers, not here — undocumented or stated without a number or a yes/limited/no: min_storage_duration
- Capabilities: 100 (94–100), weight 6%, 1 of 1 criteria scored
- Trust and compliance: 70 (59–81), weight 23%, 5 of 10 criteria scored; scored for peers, not here — undocumented or stated without a number or a yes/limited/no: audit_logs, customer_managed_keys, encryption_at_rest, pci_dss, uptime_sla
- Evidence: 91 (91–91), weight 11%, 4 of 4 criteria scored

## What the documentation says

### Pricing

- Kind of free offer: Free trial ([source](https://www.storj.io/pricing), read 2026-09-13)
- What the free plan includes: 30 days free with no credit card, including two Object Mount licences. The monthly minimum fee is waived for the duration of the trial. ([source](https://www.storj.io/pricing), read 2026-09-13)
- Credit card to start: No ([source](https://www.storj.io/pricing), read 2026-09-13)
- When the free offer ends: 30 days. ([source](https://www.storj.io/pricing), read 2026-09-13)
- Egress over allowance: $7 per TB, the same rate as storage — reduced from $20 per TB on the Standard tier. Storj charges for egress where R2, Wasabi and Tigris do not, but at a tenth of what S3 charges. ([source](https://www.storj.io/pricing), read 2026-09-06)

### Infrastructure

- Regions: Distributed across tens of thousands of storage locations globally rather than named regions; a US-only option runs on SOC 2 type 2 compliant data centres. ([source](https://www.storj.io/pricing), read 2026-09-06)

### Storage

- Storage price: $7 per TB per month, which is $0.007 per GB. A $5 monthly minimum applies to Standard and Advanced accounts. ([source](https://www.storj.io/pricing), read 2026-09-06)
- Operations price: Segment fees have been eliminated across all new tiers. They still apply to accounts on legacy plans. ([source](https://www.storj.io/pricing), read 2026-09-14)
- S3-compatible API: Supported ([source](https://www.storj.io/pricing), read 2026-09-06)

### Support

- Support on entry paid plan: Support hours are 9am to 8pm Eastern on business days for Severity Level 1 errors, and 9am to 5pm Eastern for everything else. Committed in the terms of service rather than sold as a tier. ([source](https://www.storj.io/legal/terms-of-service), read 2026-09-14)
- Response time commitment: For a Severity Level 1 error: acknowledgement within one business day, updates every eight hours, and resolution no later than three days. No uptime percentage is published anywhere in the terms. ([source](https://www.storj.io/legal/terms-of-service), read 2026-09-14)

### Compliance

- SOC 2: Beyond SOC2, Storj also meets the critical requirements of GDPR, HIPAA, CJIS and MPA regulations for object storage compliance. ([source](https://www.storj.io/object-storage/compliance/), read 2026-09-21)
- HIPAA: HIPAA compliant cloud storage. ([source](https://www.storj.io/object-storage/compliance/), read 2026-09-21)
- GDPR / data residency: Beyond SOC2, Storj also meets the critical requirements of GDPR, HIPAA, CJIS and MPA regulations for object storage compliance. ([source](https://www.storj.io/object-storage/compliance/), read 2026-09-21)
