SEPT 2026 audit

The short answer

Choose Stripe if…

Selling where you already handle your own tax registrations. At 1.5% + 20p on a standard UK card, Stripe is roughly three and a half points cheaper than every merchant of record here, and that gap is the whole reason to take on the VAT work yourself.

Choose Dodo Payments if…

The cheapest merchant of record published here — 4% + 40¢ against the category's usual 5% + 50¢, across 220+ countries, with the comparison made on its own pricing page.

Consider something else if…

  • Stripe: You sell internationally and do not want to register for sales tax in each jurisdiction. Stripe moves the money and leaves the liability with you — and its rate is set per country, so the number you budget from is not the number a buyer elsewhere generates.
  • Dodo Payments: Your customers pay by PayPal or buy from outside the US. The headline rate carries named surcharges — 3% more for PayPal, 1% more for cards and alternative methods outside the US — which can put the real cost above the flat 5% it undercuts.

5 sourced criteria separate them — see where, with sources, below.

Only criteria both providers publish appear here; a tinted cell marks a real difference. Criteria only one of them documents are listed below, and an absence there means we found no source — not that the feature is missing. How we source this.

The small bar above a value is inetGeek's own lean toward that side — computed from the same facts shown, never a number the provider published. See the picker below "The short answer" to weigh only the criteria you care about.
